Award for Catering Excellence – Secondary Team of the Year
This award goes to a team who have demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm, initiative, commitment and effort and have implemented activities to increase awareness of, or support the school’s food service. The award is for a team who have maintained a consistent professional standard in their day to day work.
Finalists
Arbroath High School, Angus – June, Cook in Charge and her team have developed a great relationship with the pupils and staff at Arbroath High. When ‘Hungry for Success’ was implemented Arbroath High School ran the pilot and the transition went smoothly and was extremely successful. June and her team are highly motivated, have good team spirit and always include the fun element in promoting their service to their customers – a good example of this was when the team dressed up as Elves at Christmas time.
Pitlochry High School, Perth & Kinross – Denise and her team are willing to share their knowledge and experience with others. The team work extremely well together and are willing to take anything on board, which can benefit the service. There is a warm, friendly and adaptable attitude in the workplace. The team embraces the whole school with its approach to marketing and involves the kitchen, primary, secondary, supervisors and teachers.
St Paul’s Academy, Dundee – Dianne, Cook in Charge and her team at St. Paul’s Academy are recognised for their contribution towards the successful turnaround of struggling meal numbers in their unit. Dianne was faced with her toughest meal uptake challenge to date – competition from local businesses and a major supermarket on their doorstep. Dianne’s involvement in the menu planning group, recipe trials and continuous development of the school service has played a major part in where her school is placed today.
Winner – Pitlochry High School, Perth & Kinross. Denise and her team operate the kitchen at 117% to budget. As well as Radio Tay promotions the team have held special events for Valentine’s Day, Burn’s Day, Halloween Week, Comic Relief, High School Musical Day, Spongebob Squarepants Day, a Joke Day and many more. Denise’s enthusiasm and good leadership rubs off on her team and with so much effort put in the school dining room atmosphere has gone from near zero to hero.
