Award for Transport Services – Mechanic of the Year

This award is presented to an individual with the best performance in M.O.T. pass rates, cost effectiveness of repairs, diagnosis skills and first time repairs, awareness of and attitude to safety and flexibility and motivation.

Finalists
Colin MacKenzie, Blairgowrie Depot – Colin has worked with Tayside Contracts for about three years, starting as a mechanic and progressing to become the workshop chargehand. A very good engineer with good organisational skills Colin is supportive towards his supervisor, the other mechanics and towards the apprentice.

Calum Mitchell, Blairgowrie Depot – Calum completed his apprenticeship with Tayside Contracts two years ago. While studying at Perth College he won the National Apprentice Mechanic of the Year Award, which gave an indication of things to come. Calum has continued to progress and through his hard work and effort he has shaken off the apprentice tag and demonstrated that he is a key member of the workshop team.

Jim Mollison, Fairmuir Depot, Dundee – Jim has only been with Tayside Contracts for almost two years having previously worked on private and commercial vehicles and plant. Jim has adapted well to maintaining and repairing the goods vehicles and plant that Tayside Contracts operate. He has a really good attitude towards his work, is keen, flexible and willing. Jim is a good team player who is supportive to his supervisor and chargehand.

Winner – Colin Mackenzie, Perth & Kinross. Colin has been a chargehand in Blairgowrie for almost two years. He is flexible in his attitude and nothing is too much trouble. Colin gets on with the task in hand without complaint and typifies everything that is looked for in a Transport Services employee.
