Award for Construction Excellence
This award goes to an individual or work group who has demonstrated a high level of enthusiasm, initiative, commitment and effort to improve or support operations within the Construction Division. This award is for those who have produced a high quality standard of work, who have maintained a high motivation and interest in the job and who have been willingly supportive and co-operative with others.
Finalists
East Surfacing Crew, Angus – the surfacing crew have continually shown a positive and enthusiastic approach to their daily challenges. They have taken on board all training given to allow them to become more proficient in their varied duties. The surfacing crew are all self-motivated and work together as a team. The crew travel throughout the Tayside Region to carry out surfacing work as and when required. Some contracts have involved nightshift working, when the team continued to show full commitment and take ownership of the challenges placed upon them.
Footway Slurry Sealing Team, Perth & Kinross – a new area of work covered by Tayside Contracts is slurry sealing of footways, a technique that was known to be undertaken in North Lanarkshire. A delegation including chargehand John was sent to observe how the work was undertaken and decide if the process could be replicated in Perth & Kinross. This is a new skill and a new service; it became apparent during training that the team have an enthusiastic approach and a strong desire to learn. The team are now well practiced in the art and display a highly developed technique.
Rapidrhino Team, Dundee – Raymond and Kenny operate the Rapidrhino system in and around Dundee. The system is a first-time permanent pot-hole repair system, which has operated in Dundee for around three years. The team consistently provide high standards of work and have improved the productivity and output of the system by 30%. The team are always willing to discuss how the process can be improved and actively put forward their own suggestions to the Project Supervisor.
Winner – East Surfacing Crew, Angus. The surfacing crew continually take on board any and all new initiatives and have been involved in trialling new products produced by our quarry. They have increased profitability over the past three years, despite the current down-turn in workload. The client is always happy with the work carried out and the high quality finish that is produced time after time.
