Holiday Meal Service Programme

Holiday Activity Programme

During the Easter holidays, Dundee City Council, in partnership with other agencies, charitable support and Tayside Contracts, undertook to address malnourishment and attainment issues through the provision of holiday camps.

These holiday camps, open to pupils and their parents, offered meals and free activities such as cookery, crafts and sports in key locations across Dundee.

Tayside Contracts, through Tay Cuisine, provided in excess of 1,600 meals over the two week holiday period making meals available to families who rely on school meals in term time.

The team at Tay Cuisine worked tirelessly to provide this worthwhile service in addition to the 1,000 community meals prepared daily. This was only made possible with the help of colleagues from the school meals service who volunteered to work during their Easter break.

Nicky MacCrimmon, Project Leader, said,

'The meals are such an important part of our holiday programme. As well as getting a hot nutritious meal, families are getting time to sit down together, to eat and talk. It is such an important part of family life to be able to take time out to spend with each other and the meals provide this opportunity for families.'

The Holiday Activity programme, funding permitting, is likely to be rolled out during all school holidays, with the exception of Christmas, and Tayside Contracts will be extremely proud to continue to play our part.
