Tayside Contracts Excellence Awards
After months of planning the highly anticipated first ever Tayside Contracts Excellence Awards ceremony was held on 21 May 2010, where the awards for 15 teams and individuals were announced to a packed Caird Hall.
The Excellence Awards were introduced as a way of recognising and thanking some of the many people who have made an outstanding contribution in delivering our services. They provide an ideal opportunity to highlight how the community benefits from our pursuit of excellence, while showcasing the high quality work carried out by Tayside Contracts’ employees.

The eminent journalist, broadcaster and writer Sally Magnusson of BBC Scotland presented the awards and the event was attended by members of the Tayside Contracts Joint Committee along with representatives from Angus, Dundee City and Perth and Kinross Councils, Tayside Police and Tayside Fire and Rescue.
Winners were decided by a judging panel compromising Councillor Bob Myles, Convener of the Tayside Contracts Joint Committee and Vice-Convenors, Councillor Jack Coburn and Councillor David Bowes. Iain Waddell, Managing Director, paid tribute to the winners and to all nominees ‘as chair of the judging panel I was very impressed by the high standard of nominations received for all of the awards. Every nominee, and in particular the award winners, should be as proud of themselves as I am to have them working for Tayside Contracts.’
Amongst the awards was the well-publicised Favourite Dinner Lady or Gent of the Year Award, where the voting was facilitated by Radio Tay and voted for by school pupils throughout Tayside. The winner was Fiona Miller, Cook-in-Charge at Timmergreen Primary School in Arbroath. Construction Excellence, Cleaning Excellence and Excellence in Customer Service were some of the varied awards, which reflected the whole range of Tayside Contracts’ services. The atmosphere throughout the evening was electric and the biggest cheer of the night went to the winners of the final award ‘Best Service Team’ which went to all 29 employees at Tay Cuisine, Tayside Contracts’ state of the art cook chill facility.
Over 40 of Tayside Contracts’ suppliers and business partners sponsored the evening, which was attended by four hundred nominees, employees, sponsors and guests. Such a prestigious event could not have been held without their generous support.
The feedback following the event has been overwhelmingly positive and it seems a fantastic evening was had by all. Indeed it was so successful that the TEA Project Team are already worried about how to top it for next year’s awards!
A special edition of Target magazine dedicated to the Excellence Awards will be published at the end of June 2010 and all of the award winners will be featured on Tayside Contracts’ website shortly.
