Catering Unit celebrates success at national level

Patricia Hepburn, Cook at Tay Cuisine represented Tayside Contracts at the final of the Care Cook of the Year 2009 achieving a very credible 2nd Place.

A panel of experts selected by officers of the National Association of Care Catering (NACC) viewed entries from all six NACC membership regions with the best from each region being invited to the final. Following the selection process Patricia was invited to represent the Scottish Region at a Cook-Off at University College Birmingham on Thursday 9th July 2009.

The competition, one of the longest standing independent recipe competitions in the UK is open to all levels of caterer working within the Care Sector and aims to raise the profile of care sector catering on both a local and national level by demonstrating the significant skill levels at work within the care catering profession.

All of the finalists, who had fought off stiff completion at local level had to produce a two course meal in 90 minutes within stringent nutrient standards at a cost of £1.30 per person. The judging panel included the Head of Nutrition and Dietetics at University Hospital Birmingham and the 2008 Care Cook of the Year.

Patricia impressed the Judges with her mouthwatering menu consisting of Breast of Chicken stuffed with Smoked Ham and Swiss Cheese served with Baby Potatoes & Asparagus Spears followed by White Chocolate & Raspberry Cheesecake.

We are all extremely proud of Patricia for achieving 2nd Place on her first ever venture into competition catering.
